The decision follows weeks of campaigning, backlash from disability organisations, and public pressure \u2013 and it proves that when we come together and speak out, we can change the course.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But while this is good news for PIP claimants, the <strong>fight isn\u2019t over<\/strong>. The same welfare bill still includes deep cuts to <strong>Universal Credit<\/strong>, which will affect disabled people \u2013 especially new claimants \u2013 in the years ahead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-wait-what-just-happened\"><strong>Wait, What Just Happened?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Let\u2019s break it down.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Last week, the government pushed forward a <strong>welfare reform bill<\/strong> that would\u2019ve included big changes to both PIP and Universal Credit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But after massive public outcry, and over 100 MPs voicing concern, ministers have now confirmed that the <strong>PIP cuts are being scrapped<\/strong>. That means:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>No removal of cash payments<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>No replacement with vouchers or grants<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>No changes to PIP rules (for now)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is a direct result of disabled people, campaigners and charities speaking up and demanding better. And it worked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-what-s-still-in-the-bill\"><strong>What\u2019s Still In The Bill?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Unfortunately, the bill still includes <strong>cuts to Universal Credit<\/strong> for people who are sick or disabled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If the plans go ahead:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>New claimants who are too unwell to work could see their support <strong>slashed from \u00a3390 to \u00a3200 a month<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>These cuts are set to start in <strong>2026\u201327<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Existing claimants should stay on the higher rate until at least <strong>2030<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This change risks pushing thousands more disabled people into poverty. It\u2019s already been reported that <strong>disabled people are three times more likely to go hungry<\/strong> \u2013 and these cuts will only make that worse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-so-what-now\"><strong>So\u2026 What Now?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This version of the bill still isn\u2019t final, and there\u2019s still time to influence what happens next.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We need to keep the pressure on MPs to protect disabled people \u2013 not just those on PIP, but everyone who relies on benefits to live.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You can:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Write to your MP<\/strong> (we have a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.purpldiscounts.com\/blog\/stop-the-pip-cuts\">free template<\/a> ready to go)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Share your story<\/strong> online or in private \u2013 every voice matters<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Support disability organisations<\/strong> who are campaigning for change<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Look after yourself<\/strong> \u2013 this news is hard. You don\u2019t have to face it alone<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-why-this-matters\"><strong>Why This Matters<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This bill should never have come to MPs in the first place. It\u2019s caused fear, confusion, and stress for thousands of people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But we\u2019ve also seen what\u2019s possible when disabled people speak out, when MPs listen, and when the public rallies behind those who need support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We\u2019ve protected PIP for now. That\u2019s worth celebrating.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Now we keep going \u2013 to make sure no one is left behind, and to build a system that\u2019s fair, inclusive, and rooted in dignity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Because the goal isn\u2019t just to survive.
